I've just ordered....

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

and

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

Could someone just confirm that I've made a boo-boo by purchasing memory that isn't fast enough for the FSB of the CPU?

You'll be needing to be hitting near 4ghz before the RAM even thinks about holding back the e6600.

The 1066mhz of the Core 2 Duos is really only 266mhz. Intel like to quadruple it for some reason

So you only need pc4200 (2x266 = 533mhz) RAM to run an e6600 at stock.

And like I said above, the 800mhz Geil pc6400 will let your e6600 run at upto ~4ghz (450x9) or so. Although it's highly unlikely it will go to 4ghz ofcourse.
