CPU/Mobo/Ram upgrade advice for Battlefield 5 and in general?

Hi all, havn't been here for a while so I'm a bit out of the loop on common recommendations on parts to buy.

I've been trying to play Battlefield 5 (all low settings) with some friends over the last few weeks and it seems I keep getting FPS drops to 30-40 in intense areas which is kind of bad as it makes aiming a wee bit difficult.

My current spec is:

PSU: 650w Super flower PSU
GPU: GTX 970
CPU: Intel I5 3570k
Mobo: Gigabyte Z77x-D3H
Ram: 16gb DDR3 ram
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv

I have SSD's for games and normal hard drives for media and genral storage and I feel that the GTX 970 is still a pretty decent card and the oldest things in the setup are the CPU Motherboard and Ram. Also my friends have the same card and report that they have good performance however they do have a newer and better CPU.

If I were to spend around £500 on those three, what sort of options would I be looking at?

I have quickly gone and picked out the following:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £520.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Could any tweaks be made to this?

Many thanks

Drop in framrates , guessing this happens whilst playing online and under heavy fire fights ?
Networking and pathwaths take a hammering to CPU

Seems i7 4 core 4 threads would be better , but 6 core is the best, whether that's ryzen with 12 threads or 9600k with 6 or 8700 with 12.

If your playing at 1080p , intel 6 core will beat ryzen 6/8 cores , specially if you can overclock to 5ghz !

Gtx 1060 sits between your 970 and 980 .

If you did want most FPS increase then RTX 2060 as that would out it above gtx 1070 performance

So 3 options,

Buy rtx 2060 and grab i7 3770k second hand , would give you the most FPS increase for mind frame rates

Upgrade to i5 9600k - need a good cooler though if you haven't got one already ?

I7 8700 non K 6 cores 12 threads, all core speed of 4.3ghz , dual core 4.6ghz

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £525.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

I5 8600k - no real difference between 9600k - IHS is soldered on the 9th gen but i5 don't produce as much heat as i7/i9 so you'd be fine. Used the saved cash for good cooler if you haven't got one

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £470.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Or grab rtx 2060 now, use rest of cash along with saving up till end of June for Ryzen 3600 and x570 board. Should match intel performance at 1080p/1440p hopefully but cheaper

This is correct yes, it's all usually okay at the start of the round then once everything starts getting more intense the slowdown starts.

Thanks for the options - I'm thinking of going the 8600k route that you have posted.

Should help , firefights are a killer.

Ryzen 2700x could be a good shout as well, 1080p would lack a bit in FPS when less intense and not from behind when in a fire fight but would hold its ground come 1440p/4k at a cheaper price
