I am looking to upgrade my CPU/Mobo/Memory from what it is now. My budget is 320 and I am mostly a gamer with occasional video editing, does anyone have any suggestions?

What about CPU cooler? OEM dosen't have one.

Good choices though.

Fancy overclocking?

If not, this SB set-up will destroy pretty much all else out there:
Intel Core i5-2500 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £169.99
(£141.66) £169.99
(£141.66)
Asus P8H67M-EVO Intel H67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro-ATX Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** £99.98
(£83.32) £99.98
(£83.32)
GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz VALUE PLUS Dual Channel (GVP34GB1600C9DC) £39.98
(£33.32) £39.98
(£33.32)
Sub Total : £258.30
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
DPD Next Day Parcel
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £9.50
VAT is being charged at 20.00% VAT : £53.56
Total : £321.36

Or, if you fancy doing some overclocking, you could go with a AMD Phenom II set up.

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £106.99
(£89.16) £106.99
(£89.16)
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £104.99
(£87.49) £104.99
(£87.49)
Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM3) £36.98
(£30.82) £36.98
(£30.82)
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9) £35.99
(£29.99) £35.99
(£29.99)
Sub Total : £237.46
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
DPD Next Day Parcel
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £9.50
VAT is being charged at 20.00% VAT : £49.39
Total : £296.35

Note: While it is cheaper, you do loose out on some performance (NB, FarCry is optimised for Intel chips :p).
However, that difference will be negated when the Phenom II is overclocked. It's also worth noting that the AMD build has CrossFire capability - allows for dual card set-ups, a cheap effective upgrade when you see frame rates dip

cookeh pack it in son, who in their right mind as a gamer would go for the non 'k' cpu:rolleyes:. Why even bother speccing an H67 board to a gamer?

There is no way an overclocked Phenom 2 can match either.

It is also worth noting that crossfire is available to both:rolleyes:.

yet another winner from cookeh lol

How does this sound?. Oh and I was thinking of buying a cooler in the same month, just not at the same time due to money constraints.

that will be great provided you have a cooler to use already

Beg pardon?

Show me your K series chip within budget then?

Also, I assume everyone overclocks?

And yes, it can, a Phenom II at 4GHz can match a standard clocked SB in some games, hell a stock one beats SB in some applications.

Yeah, fair point. Should have made my point of "proper" symmetrical CF ;)

Another winner? You forgot a cooler :o And it was over-budget already.

Please grow up, forums are not a competition.

MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 £104.99 inc VAT
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £29.99 inc VAT
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz OEM £161.99 inc VAT
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler £20.99 inc VAT

total = Total : £329.35 inc vat & del ( £9.50 )

or £320 inc free del which you qualify for.

That looks a good setup and from what I can read, the 212 is better than my Freezer 7 Pro and quieter. I'll probably try and stretch a couple of more pounds and get some decent thermal paste to go with it.

That's a good spec VoG - the 212 is a very capable cooler - comparable to some way out of its price range, should cope with a 4.6GHz overclock nice and easily.

Worth noting OP that the board isn't B3 revision - meaning its susceptible to the USB 2.0 failures that affect some H/P67 chips; and you won't get CF or SLI - not such an issue if you have no plans to CF or SLI ofc ;)

but they are a place for sound advice, recommending a standard sb cpu for a gamer is dumb. Recommending an H67 motherboard is dumb. The op asked for board, chip and ram and that is what I supplied. i didn't realise he didn't have one because it was not specified at the time.

You are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike mate.

You strike me as beyond moronic just for that post alone.

If said gamer doesn't overclock what's the point in K +P67? Show me the statistics stating that every gamer overclocks.

Ah yes, feign ignorance. Didn't you think that seeing as he's asking for pretty much a new system a cooler -might just- be needed?

Do yourself a favour, put the shovel down, and grow up.

Honestly from looking at it....i probably should increase my budget a little. Its not a big deal, its just something i'll have to work out. Thankfully I'll be selling up my Q9550 around about the same time so that could pay for a good cooler :D. And yes I overclock, I really would not except anything other than a K model :D...I should have said that, sorry guyz and galz

Q9550?

What's your current spec? And what kind of games do you play? If you're not seeing a major drop in frame rates you might be better off buying a good cooler and a new graphics card (depending on what your current one is) and overclocking the Q up to around 4.0GHz

It's still a good gaming chip, and it will easily tide you until BD and Intels new Z68 chipset release. Who knows, BD may wipe the floor with SB or provide a cheaper comparable alternative.

actually Cookeh it is a B3 Revision board, i accidentally deleted that part from the description whilst i was inserting the price link :p
