hi all

i was just wondering wondering which i should upgrade first to make the most difference?
so my system is
aorus b450 elite v2
16gb ram(3000MHZ)
2600x
vega 56
m.2 name 500gb drive plus other ssd for games and storage.
I also have a 1080p 144mhz monitor.
what i am looking for is what will improve performance most in games?
for the cpu i was looking at the 5600(x), 5700x and maybe the 5800x.. can't quite push to the X3D.
for gpu 5700xt, 6600, 6650xt at a push.
budget is tight, so I won't be getting the other one for another few months at least.
hope i am clear enough

thanks

If budget is tight then the 5600 is the best choice. No point getting 5700 or 5800 over that cpu and get the 5800x3D rather than those 8 core cpus.

In general you will see the biggest improvement by upgrading the gpu and the Arock 6600 for £230 is a sensible price for that part. I would not go for a second hand 5700xt , is a lottery with that particular card and you will not have a warranty.

If you are planning to keep the system for a few years and do upgrade cpu to a 5600/5700/5800 then 2x16gb of 3600 cl14 ram will help maximise the performance. If you did go for the 5800X3D then ram speed is almost irrelevant so get whater 32gb is on your mobos qvl list. This is not a priority but something you may want to keep your eyes open for a good deal.

i will be selling the old items yes..
Well for budget as low as possible but I would like the item to last a while. Like my vega 56.. got that when it came out as has served me well for years. It was much better value than the vega 64.
So I don't mind putting 200 quid into the 5800x for example but if a 5600x is £50 quid less and 95% of the performance i would rather go with the 5600x.

And same goes for gpu. If the 6650xt is worth ir over the 6600xt then I will go for that.
Basically looking for best performance for the price. It doesn't have to be the fastest

This is just my opinion and when looking at this tier of components it all comes down to the price.

CPU , with the 5600 being just £140 it is really hard to see how the 5800x for £229 is a good idea. Even the 5700x for £209 is not worth it even if it was in stock. You may be able to shop around and get better prices but the 5600 is excellent value.

The value propostion between the 6600 and 6650xt is close and the Powercolor 6650xt is most likely the best value but both of these cards will at some point hit a wall and have games they cannot play.

I'd try and get a 6700/6750 XT over a 6600 from a Vega 56. The 6650 XT is stronger than the 6600, but I'd still prefer the large cache and greater VRAM of the 6700/6750, with how games are going.

I'd get a 5600 non-X first and then save up for a 6700 XT. The RX 7600 is supposed to be launching next month too, which might have an impact on pricing.

Ah I completely forgot about the 7600 coming up soon.

In order you are probably best:
1st - GPU as that will set your up performance limit, so get a 6700 at just over £300 (or better) if you can.
2nd - CPU as with the higher GPU headroom it will now make a reasonable difference. Get the 5600 (non X) at < £130 as that will do just as well (interestingly I have a 5600 and it is very close to my 5800x in games with a 3080)
3rd - Here I would consider a 1440p monitor as making your gaming experience better (unless you are needing high FPS over visuals)
After that .. maybe 32Gb ram, a bigger M.2 drive which are quite cheap atm but not essential

Here is a review of the AMD 6600 which shows the performance of the 6600, 6600xt & 6700xt against your Vega,

If you want the card to be more future proof then obviously the better performing 6700xt is the card to buy, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-39k-sp.html
If you are happy to replace the Vega 56 with a card that performs a bit better, saves money on power, is new with warranty and a good cheap option the 6600 has just gone down to £200 and I don't know how much, if any further it will drop, but at that price its a great price new in my book, https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asro...ddr6-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-00t-ak.html
