I am getting a little bonus next month and whilst my money is being used elsewhere (house, kid, car), I feel a little upgrade is in order. I can only get one at the moment.

1. AMD 6970 Lightning to AMD R9 270X?
2. AMD 965BE x4 to AMD 8320?

I have an AM3+ mobo (Sabertooth Rev1) so I can slot either in.

I have been mulling this over for a few weeks and was gearing towards the GPU, but am now thinking get the CPU. Both will be roughyl the same outlay once I sell on the existing component.

What would you do?

CPU..

A 6970 to a 270X wouldn't be a huge upgrade..

Whereas you're CPU upgrade will...

Id suggest saving (or finding a good deal) on a 280X for you're next upgrade..

Or a secondhand 7970(ghz)

do you have a decent psu and 8gb ram? if you do i would go for the 8320 with an aftermarket cooler and clock it up a bit first and then save your money for a 280x :)

Get the 8320 first mate. You'll get decent improvement just doing that on your 6970. Then do the GPU along the line.

just make sure you get a decent after market cooler on the 8320 especially if you want to overclock it a wee bit, the stock one is loud and crap!

As I suspected. Cheers.

I've got a 750w Corsair PSU and 8GB Corsair RAM. I already have a good cooler on the Phenom and as far as I am aware, it will work with an 8320 as the socket is the same.

Thanks for the advice.

As above. should be ok on that front. Cheers.
