Cpu or gpu?

So first time posting but I wasn’t sure where to turn!!

I’m in the market for an upgrade but which to upgrade? Currently running an i5 6600k O/C @4.7ghz all core and a Gtx 1060.

I’ve been looking around for a while and currently have found an i7 7700k for £200 and a Gtx 1080ti for £300

I know the 1080ti will be good for another few years as will the cpu.

running on a maximus VIII hero with a Corsair 600w (possibly 650w can’t remember also looking to upgrade anyways) psu.

I’m pretty sure a 1080ti on the 6600k will be cpu bound but it will also be a little while until an gpu upgrade if I get the cpu so I’m a lil stuck with which way to go first!

Going to a 7700k your only gaining 4 threads, is the 1060 3gb or 6gb vram ?

What res you gaming at ?

currently at 1920x1080 but would like to maybe push to 1440p

and it’s the 6gb version

I’ve noticed that when I’m gaming my cpu is pretty much pegged depending on what I’m playing.

You could just upgrade your gpu and see how it performs.

If your going to change your cpu I would upgrade to a ryzen 3600 6 core , new motherboard and ram. Could do this for £320 aprox dependent on motherboard choice.

I said to friend the other day I have been very tempted to do a Ryzen build but if I can avoid new mobo that would be ideal cause my mobo is compatible with the 7700k.

I did think that about the gpu tbh but didn’t want to just go binning £300 and performance wise be exactly where I am at the moment

The 7700k won t give much of a boost. The extra 2 cores of the 3600 is going to beneficial in more demanding games.

1080ti is a big performance upgrade but the new 3060 will be released January will offer more performance.

If money is tight then carry on saving would be my advise.

7700k will not benefit you more with that 1060 6gb.. I would go 1080ti first and then look at changing your cpu/mobo when everybody is selling their old stuff to buy those fancy new ryzen cpu's
