Hi, just wanting to know peoples opinions about possible upgrading my cpu which is in my sig, its currently running overclocked from 2.4 to 3.2ghz and i was thinking what i could do to increase my gaming performance? i understand from others that my 8800gtx is still a very capable card but looking for thought from others about if upgrading the cpu or getting another graphics card would be the best way to go? my pc is running on a plasma tv at the moment at 1920x1080 but sometimes moved to my samsung monitor running max 1680x1050 res so whats the best advice for moving forward? if a cpu upgrade is best what should i be looking at but if its gpu upgrade whats my best option as i havent been keeping up on graphics cards, thanks for any info.............. :)

Your choices are upgrade the cpu to a quad, something like the 6600 or the graphics to say a ati 4870, personally i would go the graphics route as new cpu's from intel are out and amd soon so would wait and see what they are like.

Overclocking the cpu past 3.2ghz won't give any tangible results in game, even benchies won't show any significant increases, all games are gpu bound atm. You could replace your cpu for a quad, but again I doubt you'd see any gains in performance that you'd notice in games, but benchies will show them though if thats your bag. I'd say replace your GTX with a 4870 1gb or 260/280 GTX meself as games would benefit from the increased power of the newer cards.:)

So going by the responses upgrading my gpu is probably the best way to go? thought about one of the new GTX cards but rather have it confirmed by you guys in the know, if i was to get a new gpu what kind of future proofing am i looking at gaming wise with the upgrade? thanks again for everyones input ;)

Depends on your budget really. If you can afford to get something higher up I would recommend getting a GTX260/280 or ATi4870. But if you can wait then for the 270/290 come out, as that will drop the prices

Get a GTX 260+(max), or 4870(1gb). Either of would work great with your current cpu speed, and give you a huge boost in games. Can always look at a quad core cpu once more games come out that uses them :)
