Hey ppl, just overclocked my AMD Opteron 148 2.2GHz tonight to the following after a few hours testing.

I've ran some 3D Marks with no crashes or lockups, same goes for games, but what I am getting is slight GPU problems like artifacts which i cant understand why as I havnt touched it.

Yes the PCI-E Frq is locked so whats going on?

--------------------------------------------

I'm also having problems trying to hit 3.0GHz, I just cant get it to post passed 2.85GHz and thats with the ram set to its lowest div.

Cheers

A Enermax Noisetaker 600W, I've had this PSU running two 7800GTX and a 4800 @ 2.7GHz, so I dont really think its the PSU. Any other thoughts?

Cheers

What cpu cooler are you using as thinking that the cooler could be throwing out so much heat into case that it is in turn warming your graphics card a little.

I got the best air cooling gear I could find for this overclock, I dont think there is any temp problems because they are all nice and low.

Drop back to stock speeds and see if you still get the artifacts. If so then it's likely to be a faulty card. If not then...erm...I'll get back to you!

Also, the northbridge cooler on the DFI's sit under the graphics card when it's installed. Maybe that is warming the card up a little as the x1800xt draws air into its cooler from that exact area!

Along with that the pwmic heatsinks get real hot if airflow's an issue. When i had a ninja on mine the temps got to 70 degrees +. Replaced that with a Big Typhoon which blew down onto the chipset and the temps dropped to 45! They could also be adding to your problems!

Do you have the ITE Smartguardian? That'll give you useful info on temps plus it allows you to control fans directly or with temperature triggered settings!

just played a few mins bf2 without any problems, all my temps are perfectly fine so why would it be a temp problem? could it be the mobo?

Only going from personal experience - not to mention that fact that some programs produce strange temp results when installed on hardware they aren't fully compatible with... speedfan for instance!

Smartguardian is supplied with the SLi DR so i figured asking wouldn't hurt. ;)

Also, like my ninja, the tuniq flows air through itself but doesn't move much air, if any, over the mobo. When that happens the temps normally suffer but if you have good airflow then great stuff!

Next up i'd ask if you have the latest bios on the DFI?

Ultimately though it seems more like the card's possibly the issue. Remember, at standard clocks your gaming is most probably cpu limited but when you clock the processor your games could become gpu limited. At that point the gpu has to work harder as it's not simply waiting for the cpu to finish its job. That could be why you're only seeing issues when the processor's fully clocked.

what i can do is try my brothers 6600GT in mine and see if i get the same problem, if i dont then 8800 GTS it will have to be :P lets hope its fubar lolol

i suggest you run memtest before going any further.

also thats quite high voltage to be hitting that clock speed, it shoudl not take over 1.45v for your cpu to hit 2.8ghz. i suspect your ram is erroring out and causing your system to not clock any higher but thats your fault for not using the standard 11x multi. all people buy a opteron 148 if their motherboard can;t do high htt speeds. those bards that can do high htt people just stick to an opteron 146 or 144.

i suggest your go back to basics with your overclock, put the multi to its 11x standard then lower the htt and your ram will drop in speed too. fist thing is to push the cpu to its limit then start working on the ram.
if you boot up to windows with unstable ram your risk nuking your operating system.

You took the words right out of my mouth Mav ;) (hi mate)....I Ran My old FX57 Watercooled at 3.2GHZ with only 1.465 V through it so I'd agree that voltage wise thats "Thrashing it a bit." for those kind of clock speeds.:D

Check the GFX card at stock then move onto the RAM.
