CPU issue – Basically at the moment I have 3 machines. The ones in my Sig below, but recently this has taken a huge change of offerings. I used to many years ago have a PC shop and always had the latest & greatest machines all with the latest kit. Then times & priorities changed and I suddenly found out that I couldn’t play FPS as I was suffering from motion sickness in games like COD etc. Since its beginning I have played WOW, EVE & now will give ESO a try.

At the moment my machines are used as follows- Machine one is main Rig- Used for WOW, Browsing, Burning movies and serving some files to my XBOX’s. Machine Two is also used for light gaming, Serving files and Browsing etc like the first but not used half as much. Machine three lies dormant but will be used primarily as a Hyper-V server when its finished running also some VSA's.

So I was given a gift of a FX9590 which I have in my house. I was going to basically get a new board, move the FX8350 to my 2nd Rig and the FX 8150 to be my Hyper- V machine. All good. But then a spanner has been thrown in- my mate has decided he has the upgrade bug again and has offered me his 3770 and Sabertooth Mobo for £200- which I am going to accept I think. He also has a H100i, older 3570K and a 8GB RAM kit which should come in handy (£125 for all 3)

Can anyone look at my situ and give an opinion- Ive asked some questions over the last few days but need to sort this over the next couple of weeks

Its either AMD or Intel I think & I will also get a 770 for my main machine when its all done and said- but looking at my work I do on them can I have your opinions

Thanks for looking- I fancy getting back in the game

Hi Martin, Its a non-k version

My mate says he runs it at 4.2 on al cores as the ASUS board gets past the non clock able issue- is this sounding correct?

Just using the Bclk to overclock so most boards will do this.

I wouldn't say £200 is a great deal either, if it were the K chip then it would be ok, just.

4.2GHZ for a none K 3770 sounds high to me, being perfectly honest, I would never have ever thought it'd be up to it.

Assuming they can go 4.2GHZ when all cores at 100%, I'd offer 180 pound, and then that's what I'd go for (I wouldn't put money up for a 3570K over an FX83 unless it was a very small amount of loss in money at the end of it, while I'd take a 3570K over an FX83 from the get go, going from an FX83 to a 3570K is a different story, and has effort involved and selling and buying etc)

Although I'd be questioning all these rigs myself :p, I wouldn't want to be running an FX83, an FX95 and an FX81 all at the same time.

don't you think that the 3770 and Z77 Sabertooth board is a good deal for £200? I put it on here yesterday and folks told me it was a great deal

Im going to have too much stuff- which hasn't happened to me in a long time so once the decision is made I will just Ebay the rest

Also just saw the Lian Li D600 - Yowsers that's nice

See, I'd just get rid of what's there and go for a brand new 4930K etc (But obviously this is out of the question and not a suggestion, it's just what I'd do with that much money worth in rigs etc)

A 3770 and Sabertooth second hand for 200.... Hmm, I don't think it's a bad price by any stretch, but I'd still try a haggle :p

I can no longer spend the disposable income..actually choose to spend money on other stuff so having 780ti etc arent my bag anymore. I suppose it was when my kids came along that Combined with the unable to play FPS changed my mind. Its been a while since Ihad such a predicament and I have found it quite good to be honest. Ive been in the budget arena for machines for a while.
