alright so i recently built a gaming pc with an amd fx 6300 i applied my own thermal paste etc,

problem is when i start the pc its already sitting at like 40c and when i started to play ac3 within 10 minutes it got to 68c and tbh it's got me really worried, my room is usually quite warm due to being very small.

another problem is when i turn on turbo in the bios for cpu fan it throttles my gfx card badly in bf3 without turbo i get 60 fps almost all the time when i turn on turbo i get just about 30 fps.
even with the turbo option on it doesnt seem to cool it any better.

I'm using the asus m5a97 R2.0
Amd Fx 6300
Arctic freezer 7 Pro rev2

Help would be greatly appreciated.

i heard the safest temp at load for fx 6300 was 60c?

After some research it seems you are right! 60C is the recommended load temp max, but it won't die on you until you start going over 80c.
Regardless, it seems we need to look at getting your temps down.

Things worth checking/doing:

-check your core voltage with cpu-z to make sure your board isn't overvolting the cpu unnecessarily

- remove your cooler, carefully clean the old thermal paste away and reapply. Make sure you use a small blob the size of a grain of rice. Pressure will spread it out across the chip.

Let us know how you get on from there.

I think AMD stated that the maximum safe temperature for the FX line is 71*C. Most people seem to think that way as well, while others say it's the same as the PhIIs (62*).

If I were you I would try to keep it below 65*C honestly just to be on the safe side.

If you could give us more info like ambient and case airflow it would be helpful.

haven't tried the voltage thing yet would i need to run it under load to check? and if so for how long? Will i just post a screen of cpu-z

I removed the thermal paste and reapplied AS5 earlier Should i try it again and is there anything else to try

Not really sure it's my first build so at the bottom where the psu isn't the tidiest i have the Cpu fan facing up towards the top of the case with 2 arctic cooling f12s pushing the air out and a corsair fan(one that came with the carbide 200r pushing out the top back of the case and another 2 one at the front pulling in air and one at the bottom also pulling in air.

As for room temp it is fairly warm due to being a very small room with a big tv acting as monitor.

turn the fan around so its blowing the hot air out the back, have front an top as intakes.

Have you removed the plastic from the bottom of the heat sink? worth asking :D

Check the black plastic parts of that cooler, they have a tendency to crack = less pressure on the CPU= higher temps

i think the fan can only go 2 ways and that's either facing down towards the gpu or up facing the very top of the case or am i wrong?

Lol and yes i think so anyway there isn't any plastic that i can see.

@wazza300 What black plastic i think that's only for if your using an intel board.

cybercrow would be referring to the plastic film on the base of the cooler.

is the amd turbo feature on in the bios? i noticed this puts the vcore up to 1.4x v which is far too much imo

OK couple of things. 68c is CPU throttle temp on a 4+1 board. It simply won't go higher it'll throttle to 1.7ghz.

Secondly you need a good cooler. H80 or above. The Freezer 7 was OK and I mean only OK on a core 2 duo, it's about as much use for cooling a 6 core FX as a chocolate teapot is for holding boiling water.

Your board appears to be 6+2, so should be perfectly OK for a 6 core FX but your cooling, without being rude, mate, is laughable.

92mm coolers are soooo 2009

It sounds like the thermal paste has either been applied incorrectly or there's too much.

How much did you use? Is the heatsink definitely secure?

have you seen the stock cooler that comes with a 6300?? its pathetic and a freezer 7 is a hell of a lot better!

think my board is 6+2. may buy an CM 212 Evo

i applied it by putting a roughly pea sized dot on the cpu then pressing the heatsink down on the cpu and yes it is pretty sturdy. should i try again to make sure?
