Can anyone advise on if setting cpu power phase control on an ASUS mobo from 'standard' to 'optimized' would help with system freezes under virtually no load to light/moderate loads? My 3570k seems to have become very slightly unstable over the last week or two without any other system changes. I have tried increasing the offset by +0.035 without success. The freezes only seem to happen under virtually no load to light/moderate load and not under heavy load. I'm currently at 4.3ghz with a max voltage using offset mode of 1.248v. So far changing from standard to optimized seems to have worked although I'm not convinced. LLC is set on 50% high, PLL overvoltage is disabled, all c states are enabled (tried disabling all bar c1 to no avail) and cpu current capability is 110%. I'm convinced it's the cpu as I had the exact same issue previously when the offset wasn't quite high enough. I thought this wouldn't be an issue as perhaps the cpu was wearing in after a year and so maybe just a +0.005-0.010 increase in offset would be needed - no luck with this. The freezes seem completely random and have occurred in firefox, on just the desktop, l4d2, ac4 menu screen and once in bf4 with virtually nothing on screen so I again suspect moderate load.

Keep the phase control on optimised

One or two clicks more vccsa voltage might help

Is there an extreme setting for CPU power phase? If so use that

ASUS motherboards have a feature where they disable CPU power phases at low load to save power. If you're overclocked you probably want the setting that keeps all phases online.

I'll look into that. Vrm frequency is currently at 250 and is changeable from 200-350. My motherboard doesn't appear to have an auto setting for this?

After changing to optimised it didn't freeze once last night so will see how it runs over the next few days. I'm pretty sure it's down to the cpu phase control, vrm frequency or both. The voltage is enough as I've not had one crash under load even at 0.015 lower offset.

try leaving them on auto when you oc and see if its more stable, soon as I get to my other pc ill post the settings
