ive got a Asus P6X58D-E with a 8 pin cpu socket and i also have an Antec Basiq Plus 550W Modular Power Supply

psu is being mounted at the bottom of the case so the cable that comes with the psu wont be long enough

so i sent a mate round to the only local computer shop that sells cpu power cables, told my mate to get 8pin to 8pin, fella in the shop told him there is no such thing... so my mate just got the 4pin to 8pin cable

so the question is will that work? or should i order a 8pin to 8pin extension cable ?

reckon the 4pin-8pin cable will power on the cpu without damaging it until i get the 8pin-8pin delivered?

I love those helpful shop assistants who don't know what they are talking about.

just checked their website they dont stock them, so that musta confused him

You should be fine. The CPU is unlikely to draw more power than 4 wires can provide. Get your 8-8 ordered though.
