5900X looks reasonably priced at £450, less than I paid (RRP was £510 at launch I think and I was lucky to get it for that).

Second-hand 5600X if you can, or possibly wait for the 12400f. Both will give you some good long life.
To be fair, he actually has a point in the upper-budget sector, I talked about this in a thread a few months back ( https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/no-cheap-ryzens.18936010/ ). Basically, the issue is all the cheap ryzens have dried up, so there is no value in that end of the market. You have to go mid-range to find value.
I recently got a 11900F for £220 which I think is decent. 5600X is similar. But under £200 it's very meh, I mean I got a 2700X for £141.70 22 months ago (3600X wasn't much more). What can you get these days for under £150? Not much of an improvement over 2 years ago from what I can see... a 11400F which is no better than a 2700X, and AMD nowhere to be seen, maybe a naff 4 core chip?
I've been upgrading PCs since the 90s and I don't think I've ever seen the <£150 segment this stagnant, ever. Admittedly you have to factor in inflation but I never had an issue getting chips in this pricerange until now.

If you factor in DDR4 costs system builds aren't really any more expensive than they used to be. I built a Ryzen system 4 years ago and the RAM cost £150 for 16GB 3000mhz which was cheap at the time. So if you buy 32GB RAM it is faster and costs £200 less than 4 years ago. So you could build e.g. a 5800X system for the same price as a 1600 system back then.
I would look at the total cost of Mobo+CPU+RAM and compare with your normal builds, obviously this is on the assumption you need new mobo and RAM.

Have a look at the 10400F/11400F as those chips are currently the best bang for your buck, if you can wait for another month then the 12400F + B660 combo should be out and the 12400F will be slightly faster than a 5600X for £100 cheaper.
