Hi all, looking at laptops - was considering a lower end I5 but had my head turned by an I3.

Originally dismissed it as have an I3 2350M so I5 6200U is in budget, although I3 1115G4 is within budget too and seems to destroy it.

Is this the case?

Yeah looks like the 5 years difference has allowed the 11th gen i3 to be as good if not better than the 6th gen i5.

Rather than looking at I3 vs I5 etc you should just be dismissing anything with only 2 Core / 4 Threads.

4 Real cores / 8 Threads should be the minimum these days for a decent level of performance - of similar age processors, then 1125G4 or 11260H would be preferable

Nicely explained. Been looking at a cosmetically damaged laptop with 16gb DDR 5 and a 13500H I5. It's a tiny bit above budget at £450 which has CPU mark of 21,322. Hmmm.

It's whether it's worth the risk.

Thinking I've just seen a laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 8645HS within budget with 16gb DDR 5.

Are AMD still any good? Used to be really good for over clocking but I've been out of the PC building for a few years.

Ended up going for a brand new 14" laptop with I5-13500H and 16gb DDR 5. Managed to get one for about £350. Hopefully this will meet my needs.

Cheers for the help all.
