Hi guys got a new setup yesterday from a friend for less than half the price of retail.

Any ways here is the spec + 2 SATA HDD and IDE hdd

the watercooler i have is not the one listed but Sibrian Tiger with a better fan attatched to it. Now my system is stock and i did 3dmark to see temps and it upto 74*C core1

are these really hot chips or is something wrong here? I'm running vista 64

No way are those temps correct, sounds like your block isn't mounted correctly as 3dmark will not produce temps as high as say orthos/prime. Make sure the block is secure at all 4 points, looks like they screw in so make sure it is as tight as it will go.

Never tried one of those systems myself but I have read good things about them.

It might very well be that high because the NorthQ Siberian Tiger is not a very good watercooler. I have said it before and i will say it again. If someone is going to go with watercooling then for gods sake do it properly. At least you won't be dissapointed with the outcome then. probably would have been better off (and cheaper) going with high end air.

Ok guys re-seated the tigar and stuck 2 fans on with controls (keep the noise down).

Gonna test now, I recommeded the tigar to my mate after seing some good reviews months back. Any ways i got this system off him for £550 , it still cost over 1200 now lol

gonna do 3dmark now and see what happens

Youd probably be better with a high end air cooler than that kit. This is my q9550 cooled by a thermalright ultra and 2 fans.

ok not happy with this cooler, did prime got the temp upto 80*C and only @3ghz.

which cooler (air) should i buy that will fit on my setup, i have the riper DDR to think about and heatsinks on northbridge. cheer

p.s would you say this is faulty? he has had it 3 months or so, he did tell at the temps where high but u thought quad core might be normal, checking the forums it seems its a bit too high. I did see reviews and it must be better then stock cooler.......

Whoa 80C is quite hot.. I'm using an ACF7 and I'm getting 55-60C on 100% load, and that's at 3.4GHz with 1.186v. I say dump/sell what you got and get a decent air heatsink. ;)

Edit: Also make sure you're applying the thermal paste correctly (not enough/too much) etc. It's just a guess but.. you may wanna check up your cpu's voltage in the bios and make it's not some burning hot number lol :p

Get a Noctua NH-12, my roommate has one for his Q9550. He can run at 4+ GHz and stay under 75C. I have the 1366 version with 2 fans for my i7 and i've reached 4.26GHz with an 80C prime temp. Also the rate of cooling is awesome, within 3 secs the temp drops 30-40C after closing Prime. Awesome cooler, benches better than most budget watercooling systems. Definitely recommended!

Do whatever you have to & get the temps down to a Max of 65c under load, You will Thank me for it.
Although Water is Best when done right Air can cool quite adequately on a much smaller budget. Personally I just like Air as I know where I am with it.

i played cod4 with max settings and the highest it went was 62c also CSS was about 60c but when i do prime it jumps. Gonna have to sort the CPU cooler, the amount of air going into that case should have giving me a minus reading lol I used to have a Ninja but i dont think that will fit with the ram i have.

I need a cooler that will sit happy with ram and the mobo heatsinks also that uses 12cm fans.

I think its broke! gonna see if they replace it. cheers

60-62c are Lovely temps & I have it in my mind that 60-65c is the sweet spot for chips these days, All those I've messed with seem to just sit happy at that temp.
As for your Air & Sorry to state the obvious but you are governed by your Ambient temps, Just dropping the level of your system can make Loads of difference to temps, I put my system on the bottom shelf during summer which saves me having to turn down my clocks.

i need to take my pc out of my room in full summer lol search will be on for new cooler that will play happy with my other gear. will try a rma on that tigar, either its worse then stock cooler or its broke in some way lol
