Just a heads up to people using lapped CPUs, just found that the front of the retention bracket sits slightly higher than the top of the CPU stopping it making good contact. The bracket is easily removed though and the socket will easily hold the CPU if you're using a top down cooler (not sure on clip ons).

Could you add a gasket-esque device? you could use thin rubber strips on the underside of the retention bracket to push the cpu down? you'd have to be really careful about the thickness though.

Hmm, I ain't lapped my e4300 yet, but I may hold off until I get my watercooling sorted now. :) TY for the heads up.

What was the cpu lapped with, an angle grinder?
Surely an orbital sander would give a better finish. ;)

Just the normal, didn't even put much effort into it, but when I was test installing the waterblock I couldn't make good contact on the block and I noticed that the end where it clips down wasn't fully flat and was just above the top of the CPU. Wouldn't surprise me if it was much the same before I lapped it.
