Hi can someone please help me?
My pc works fine but when I checked my current cpu speed its running very slow and not playing games very well am trying to play Final fantasy 14.
It is my first build pc and I don’t know why my pc is running slow with 6 cores at 800 MHz instead of 2.8 GHz which should be this CPU speed.

Is there anything that I can do to get it to run at its normal speed? And stay at 2.8 GHz? I have updated the motherboard driver that came with the CD.
I’m not looking to overclock just want to get my CPU working at its normal speed, special when playing games

Here are the specs

If you can help me out that be great thanks in advance…. Oh and the graphics card I have is onboard can you also tell me what’s the best graphics card to get for my system am willing to spend under £300 for one.

Current CPU- Z reading
• Core speed = 803.5MHz
• Multiplier= x 4.0
• Bus Speed 200.9 MHz
• HT Link 2008.8MHz

Download Prime 95 to stress test the cpu, hopefully the multiplier should increase.
Usually this is AMD Cool & Quiet which drops the cpu speed when idle.

If the speed does increase check the cpu speed during boot and check the BIOS for Cool & Quiet.

Hi, welcome to forums

This isnt anything to worry about, its merely a power saving feature all PCs use, when its not required to run at full load the cpu downclocks itself to save power, for AMD this is called cool n quiet, for intel its speedstep, when necessary the cpu goes back into full action though, dont worry

Re gfx card, if you want one NOW, then the 5870 would be ebst bet, as it would allow you the option of adding a 2nd card for xfire if needed a few years down the line, however the 6000 series is imminent so if you can hold off a a few eeks to a month or so theyll be some new offerings

Hi guys thanks so much for your help and advice, have downloaded Prime 95 and run the Test and the multiplier did go up
CPU- Z reading

• Core speed =2812.6MHz
• Multiplier= x 14.0
• Bus Speed 200.9 MHz

check the bios and it did have the cool and quiet on enable but since the test work i have decided to leave it on.
has for the graphics card i may get the 6000 series depending on how much it will cost but i do like the idea of xfire never knew you can add two graphics card and link them.

anyway thanks again

bigman :-)
