CPU Temp Affecting GPUs? Watercool it?

Got a 7990 on the way so will be running tri-fire soon and am concerned things will get a little toasty.

If I w/c my cpu instead of my h50 right now, will it make a big difference on the idle and load temp of my 7990/70? Of course I would love to watercool my gpu's but the new card has eaten away at the old ££££. It might be a daft question but i have no idea at all how much a hot cpu can heat up a whole case.

Just looking at a basic XSPC RayStorm 750 EX240 WaterCooling Kit for now since funds are a little tight and it's my first attempt at watercooling so want something cheap and ideally easy.

Thanks in advance

If your watercooling a cpu with a h50 the vast majority of the heat should be dumped outside the case.

The 7990/7970 dump their heat into the case as far as I know so they will be the main issue in system temps.

I'd advise saving up a bit more and looking at a d5(pump) based kit. It would have the power to eventually cool your GPUs as well once you get the funds together.

Watercooling is really easy don't worry just check everything twice (, pray) and you'll be fine. Cheap it's not unfortunatly. If you have a max budget we could reccomend a better kit or individual parts.

Great nicname by the way :D

It was wishful thinking a cheap cpu w/c unit would fix all my potential issues.

Ok, well I could just cool my 7990 for now, saving money to buy a 2nd block at a later date. My 7970 runs quiet anyway and could w/c it later.

My max budget ideally is around £250.

Can you fit a 360mm rad in your case?

Unfortunately I think £250 is going to be extremely tight. The 7990 block alone is £100. Ill have another look see what I can do :)

Cheers.

I will have to measure up and see. Got the NZXT Phantom case nut unsure if it's the 510 or whatever variation i see about now. Well if £250 is gonna be a push I might just go for a cpu cooler for now but with a better pump like you suggested anyway. I wanna get near 5ghz with my trusty old 990x.

At least it's winter so my gpu's can heat my room. :D

Best I can seem to do is £330 for the 7990 cooling only with a 360mm(£289 with a 240mm). Always the option of second hand?

Might be a good idea to upgrade the cpu with proper water cooling then expand to the GPUs when and if.

Haha yes I've taken to warming my feet on my 7970s :D who needs central heating :D

The 7990 loop will give the most effective temps under gaming conditions and should be the block tos tart with if you want to see the biggest jump in temps. The h50 can stay on the CPU and so the 7970 is the only heat heavy component blowing hot air around the case.

The pump is powerful enough to add a CPU block and even another 7970 block but that will be near the limit of number of blocks for a single pump. A little over budget but worth it over a CPU loop to start off.

Haha, its because people only give D5 as pump suggestions people dont really give others a chance. A d5 is the best but it costs sooo much money and have found the 4.0 the best alternative tot eh D5 and comes at a really low price. It has a third less flow which is less important these days now we all sue high flow blocks and have pumps several times the power of the aquarium pumps that use to be used. The 4.0 also has way more head pressure than the D5, so if large loops or long external loops is what you are after, its ideal.

Couldn't put fans in and keep budget but if 3 fans is all that's left to cool the 7990 in its own loop, you have done pretty well for the money!

Very good points :)

I myself swear by the Laing DDC 18w. I had the ek dcp 4.0 in my first build and its still running strong almost 2 years now. Exceptional pump, only thing I have against it is it needs one of those shoggy things to decouple it from the case. Pretty sure it registers on the Richter scale :D
