just built my new system about 2 weeks ago when the processor is worked for a few hours i get temperatures upto 57 degrees is this normal with a reference heatsink and fan or should it be cooler? i ask because i had to reseat the heatsink when i built it and did not have any thermal paste do i need to take the heatsink off again clean it and put new paste on? any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Temps are a little on the high side but should be ok.
It's probably worth whipping the sink off and cleaning/re-applying thermal gunk though, should drop the temps a few deg.
In itself temps ok though, E6300 here @ 3.1ghz runs 62 load (Coretemp) on stock cooler, and E6600 @ 3.7ghz is ~ 54 load and thats watercooled :)

Mine is ~40C idle and ~60 under load but that's with 1.45V going through it using water.

My temps are never as low as other people's but I think some people are inlined to fib a little. ;)

Bear in mind though that your temps are specific to your system and that two people could own the exact same computer hardware and get different temp readings from it.
