CPU Temp sudden spike.

My brothers PC has been fine until it started to overheat and turn off this morning.

I went into the bios and it said the CPU temp was 88C so I automatically assume this is the reason it keeps turning off.

I'm just wondering what could make it overheat so sudden when it's been fine beforehand?

Should I try to reset the CPU+fan?

Does the cooler use them nasty intel push pins? If so they have likely came loose meaning the cooler is not in proper contact with the heat spreader so check it.

This was the exact reason. The push pins are a nightmare!
