CPU temperature

Whenever you ask someone about what temp their CPU is running at, they always say, "idle = XX, full load = XX"

Obviously I know how to find out cpu temps when idlying, but how can you find them out on full load, i mean if your in a game or something, time youve minimised the temp has gone down.

Simple: benchie it with Prime, etc

Or some software (SpeedFan) can also monitor over a period of time.

hmm, ive downloaded speedfan, everything seems to be fine except a certain auxtemp which is at 127, what is that lol?

google prime 95 v25.4 for a download link. run it on small-fft's, and don't forget - in the advanced menu, set "Round Off Checking". you won't need to set it for temps capture, but you'll need it if you want to stress your machine.

i have a -128 on my board... lol its just a sensor thats disabled or probally not even a sensor at all

Q6600 G0 < 85c is about the limit, o/c to <= 70 and you're laughing, mate. There are many other opinions though, and a lot depends on air v water cooling.

Hi, I noticed from your screen capture that your 12v rail is showing 11.35v, is that under load or idle??? It probably just the mobo sensor not reading the PSU 12v rail tidy, but if it is that at idle, then it may cause problems under load. IS your machine rock steady, as if it is then it is just the sensor that it not reading accurately.

Hi, thats just idlying mate, css was just open, wasnt in a server or anything. Ive had no problems with my pc so far, only when I used some asus utility to overclock - causing me to crash, however i just put everything back to stock and was told off by my mate for using a utility to oc. But in terms of overclocking via bios, i havent done it b4 and dunno if there will be that much of a performance increase?

When you say 85 is the limit, is that idle or load?

Hi again, using prime95 I found out that under load (cpu 100%) my temps were going from around 40-50, what do you think is the most they can handle, temps wise, at load?

I think your question has already been answered. The suggestion is that it should be less than 85C.

If you’re overclocking aim for a max of 70C.

I’ve just installed a Q6600 and at stock and using Prime 95 I get the same temps as you.

I’d be inclined to generally follow the advice given although personally I wouldn’t go near 85C – well not intentionally.
