hey
right well i have noticed that recently my cpu has been overheating seriously while i play games (cs etc.)
atm it is at 53oC ish and when i was playing cs earlier it hit around 65oC
i have p4 3.2GHz prescott not oced, stock cooler etc.
and a gigabyte 8S648FXP-RZC
i have been told to update my bios but don't know how been told it's bit risky

That's a bit warm.

How's the airflow in your case? I suggest an aftermarket cooler or try reseating your HSF with some AS5

Prescotts do run very hot. 65 degrees isn't going to damage it. If a P4 overheats to dangerous levels (probably >90 degrees) it will automatically clock itself back to avoid damage. It'll even survive the HSF falling off.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 4 + Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste + some case cooling should sort it out if you need it to be running cooler. The intel stock cooler is horribly noisy btw, which is reason enough to switch to a Freezer 4 or similar HSF.

Can't see why a bios update would make the chip run cooler. Check your motherboard CD - there may well be a Gigabyte app to make updating the BIOS easier and to allow it from windows. Updating via floppy/command prompt is a pain.

ah right to my cpu is in no danger? yea i have good case air flow with 2x120mm and a 80mm. but what i want to know if why only recently it is overheating more that it used to? i used to have it oced quite a bit and it was still a bit cooler, would that be why?
