Cpu temps while in BIOS

Hi Folks,

Bit of a nooby question but when in the bios is the cpu under load in any way or are the temps read idle?

Just installed a new 2500k cpu @stock currently and seeing 36 deg in bios with a h50 cooler. that right in anyway? its sitting installing windows atm but ive never put that cooler on before and want to make sure it seems ok

Temps look fine, once windows is running double check with Real Temp or HW monitor.

I've heard before that the CPU won't be idle whilst in the BIOS, but not found out why or how much it is ticking over.

Yer tis fine. My i5 2500k says 42c in bios. Boot into windows and idles around 30-35

In bios the cpu is not idle. You can confirm this by using a power meter. My i5 750 uses an extra 30-40watts in bios compared to idle in Windows.

Same here. I'm glad the OP posted that question. I was surprised at the temperature I saw in the bios. It's good to know that's normal.

I also wondered about that as my bios temp was 37 but once in Windows it idles around 29-30.
