CPU Thermal Paste - Ammount?

Loads of videos showing that it makes zero to no difference how you apply paste, even putting too much on (which I would never do just because it's silly and you don't want paste coming over the edge) makes little to no difference for temps.

how often do you guys replace the thermal paste ?
Normally my CPU gets upgraded (about every 3/4 years) before the paste dry's up. You would only replace it if you noticed you CPU temps were creeping up otherwise just leave it alone.

Wow holy thread revival batman, I wasn't even a member when this thread died.

I apply a pear size amount.

Damn didn't even notice just how old this thread was.

standard little blob in the midde, or you can do an X shape and it should be perfectly fine

.

Fair enough mate.
Re appplying the paste to a new CPU/Heatsink won't make the slight whirring noise I get in high performance mode go, will it ?

I did my usual rice grain in the middle which always covered the whole cpu in the past. As I am happy with my temps I will be leaving it alone, but will probably repaste it at some point just to have a look at how the paste spread and if using another method would help.

Thread necro lol from 2006!

I've done grain of rice, line down the middle 4-5mm from the edge and spread across.
Don't think it really makes a huge difference.

Lapping though makes a BIG difference
