Hi guys, so the CPU upgrade bug has bit me and I was wondering if there were any decent replacements out there now for the Intel Core 2 Duo e6300. I currently have mines clocked to 3.15Ghz and performance is fine but I feel like getting something that bit quicker, you know how we all get!

So what would be the recommendations for someone who is currently running the chip on a DFI INF Black S P965 Chipset(Newest Bios has support for Wolfdale)? It would also be coupled with 2GB of Geil Ram.

Used mostly for games, photoshop and cad

Have you seen people confirm that a Wolfdale works in this mobo? Seen a few threads where even though there was BIOS upgrade the system was flakey but this was on Gigabyte P965 mobos.

Intel Core 2 Duo e6300
That's the chip I've used for nearly a year and a half, it's good but I finally found out my one has an FSB wall at about 485MHz. The new E0 stepping Wolfdales are worth a look I reckon, that's the E8600 now and E8500/E8400 in the near future.

The prices on the revised chips are of course on the high side at present but once the E0 E8400 and E8500 start shipping that will probably be a good time to pick one up

3600MHz (9x400)
3800MHz (9.5x400)
4000MHz (10x400)

4050MHz (9x450)
4275MHz (9.5x450)
4500MHz (10x450)

4500MHz (9x500)
4750MHz (9.5x500)
5000MHz (10x500)

e8400 or the e8500 are the best bag for the buck right now .

Both will clock to 4.0 stable very easy for under 200 bucks .

Thanks guys, im happy everyone kinda went straight to the 8xxx's since I was hovering over the e7200 but obviously this seems the way to go! I'll hold out for the new chips and see what prices they come in at! The wall on mines at the moment is around 457MHz or something like that!

Teaf I'll need to do some research but im hoping i dont have to replace my mobo otherwise il be looking at a Q6600 im thinking

if you check the MM there's an E8500 and an E3110 for sale
