Chaps,

Is it worthwhile upgrading from a e6600 @3.6Ghz to one of the new e8500 CPUs?

I'm using Dominator 800FSB ram which can do 1000Mhz @ 5-5-5-15

would i see a beneficial performance increase?

I'm just about to go SLi with a second 8800GTX, and wish to minimise CPU bottleneck.

any tips?

The EVGA 680i SLI motherboard will support 45nm Wolfsdale (dual core) CPU's with an upcoming BIOS update. 45nm Yorkfield (quad core) CPU's will be supported on upcoming nForce 700-series SLI motherboards.

My Bad

Its the Yorkfields

Apologies :)

At the OP make sure your revision version supports the wolfdale cpu's

It's the BFG A2

I think all 680is support Wolfdale, a friend has a rev 1 evga and that supports it, and i'm on the p32 bios (latest)

so, assuming it works, what's the recommendation?

680's are ok with Wolfdales.
I run an e8500 in an EVGA 680i

Make sure you get the latest bios flashed into your board before you do the CPU swap.

I would recommend you go for the 8500 rather than the 8400.
It is likely that with the 680 you will max out at around 450 {1800} on the fsb.
If you want to clock past 4Ghz then the extra half multi on the 8500 will get you there.

I went from an e6750 at 3.6Ghz to a 8500 and noticed quite an improvement.
Clock for clock they are quite a bit faster.

Thanks for the info - are they really clock for clock faster? I didnt realise this..... and if only i could find one anywhere!!??
