hi I am thinking of upgrading my CPU for cod warzone 3 when its out I am currently on ryzen 5600x @ 4.85ghz I'm struggling to decide between ryzen 9 5900x vs ryzen 7 5800x3d , 12 cores vs 8 ,
I get about 130 fps with drops when playing plunder quads WZ3

so would the 12 cores be much better in Warzone with the settings below
cfg setting for cod warzone for CPU core usage:
// Thread count for handling the job queue
RendererWorkerCount:0.0 = "8" // -1 to 16 setting for 5800x3d
RendererWorkerCount:0.0 = "12" // -1 to 16 setting for 5900x

I no the ryzen 7 5800x3d has more cache but does it make that much difference? compared to more MHZ and cores that the ryzen 9 5900x can do, when i see some videos of warzone 2 or 3 online I'm not Shure if the people doing the videos have set the "RendererWorkerCount" to match there CPU for the compare video

has anyone got any info please or experience with these CPU's?

I game at 1080p & (1440p scaled) warzone 3
some times play Fortnite & bf2042

my pc spec:
I use freesync and frame rate set to about 140fps max
ryzen 5600x @ 4850ghz
32gig kingston renegade fury ram 3600 16-20-20-39-83-1 (tCAS-tRCD-tRP-tRAS-tRC-tCR)
Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING
Storage Western Digital WD_BLACK SN770 1TB (FW: 731100WD)
AOC 144htz monitor 1080p
Gfx AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT (Navi 32 XT) @ 2620 MHz
Corsair RM1000e (2023) PSU
windows 11 pro
water cooling

many thanks in advance :)

thanks for the reply's
my problem is my brain cannot make sense of 4 extra cores being used in a game 5900x how can this not be better ?
I think most games are optimised for 8 core 5800x3d would own this
warzone 3 seems to be up to 16 cores
I am worried if I buy the 5800x3d and find out the 5900 x runs it better I be gutted this will be my last upgrade on this am4 setup so want it to last year or 2 for games and get good solid fps especially in COD warzone smooth no fps drops or anything my next upgrade after CPU would be monitor possibly 165 htz or 240 htz

thanks again for your replies :)

5800x3d is the way to go.

I had a similar dilemma and went with a 5900x in the end to save me upgrading my AM4 setup. If it helps there are a few comparison videos on youtube and around the internet comparing the 5800x3d and the 5900x ;)

Ultimately the 5900x feels like the better cpu for me because I do lots of things plus gaming with the pc. That's just my humble opinion :)

Great news.

Yes the x3d gives higher FPS in the 1% lows, meaning less FPS drops in the most demanding part of the game making the game smoother.

Enjoy.
