Hi,

I'm going to be picking up one of those super ultrawide monitors (5120x1440 @ 240Hz) next week.
Now pondering upgrading the CPU (3700X) aswell. Not sure if it'll be a bottleneck at delivering very high refresh rates.
CPU is running at stock clocks. Just not got the time/energy/interest/patience in overclocking anymore.

The higher the resolution the less important the cpu is and the more load is put upon the gpu. Unless you have a 3090ti and play competitive shooters and absolutely must have 240+ fps there is limited advantages to upgrading.
Not sure what mobo you are running your 3700x with but the only sensible upgrade for gaming is to a 5800X3D.

Agree with @Haz123 not much benefit. You using a 1080ti?

Thank you for the advice.

Sorry, my sig needs a major update. Just recently got myself a 3080 Ti :)

240 fps @ that resolution is pretty much impossible (in anything recent, except possibly esports games), so you won't be doing that anyway.

CPU will be OK I reckon. Sure you'll see an increase but AM4 is a dead end now. Maybe in the future a 5800X 3D might be a good upgrade if your board supports it.

It might improve your 1% and 0.1% lows in gaming but it depends on the game. Certainly, at 4K, it puts more pressure on the GPU as the others have said.

Get the monitor and see what happens. I wouldn't be surprised that you're happy as is. That being said, the upgrade itch never really goes away for long.
