Hi all at OC, 1st time post so hello to every-one!

I am looking at upgrading my e5200 to another s775 cpu and would like to know what is my best option, i use my pc for gaming and browsing mainly and although i would like a q9550, i feel the price for one of those are crazy at the moment and for now i have to rule out either i5/i7 and the amd range as my budget would not stretch that far!

My e5200 runs at 3.0ghz on my p5q-e, Would either an e8200 or e8400 be a worthwhile upgrade or should i start to look towards a quad?

Mny thanks!

I'm having great results from my e8400. If you're looking at overclocking you can easily get 4GHz out of one (provided your board/ram can handle a fsb > 450). Got mine up to 3.7GHz with loads more room to go temp-wise.

I know that the e8400 are good at overclocking and would probably get one but it seems that some games are starting to make use of the more cores available with quads, so this is my one doubt i have with staying with a dual core.

Thanks

Have a look at my E5200 review here. It get's compared to several other Intel dual cores at varying speeds. The best option would be to go for a quad now though. A Q9400 is only another £20 over a E8400.

I have Q9400 and the same board and it dose 3.6Ghz easily with full load temps maxing out at 55c

I have had a look at the Q9400 and is about as much as i would like to pay, so may-be this is the one that i wil get and this should last me until the s775 is killed off completely! cheers for your help every-one.:)

Nice overclock, i would be happy to get 3.5ghz, though not too fussed as a stable system is more important for me.

it dose it easily and its nice and stable just make sure you have a good after market HSF

EDIT****
Only Settings you need to change is
FSB to 450
CPU Voltage to 1.3
make sure your ram isnt running to fast!
3.6Ghz 100% stable

Iam using the freezer 7 pro so alls well there, just curious though what would be the real world difference between the Q9400 and E8400 in gaming terms, let`s say both clocked at 3.5?

at the min not to much they around even but more & more games are using more cores now so the q9400 is the better choice
