Currently have an XP2500 Mobile that is running at 2200hz. I've lost touch a bit - what is this speed comparable with?

Will I notice a significant improvement if I upgrade to FX55 levels of performance? If so, what overclocking chip should I go for: the 3000 Venice or the 144 opteron?

I do want to keep things fairly silent - I'm assuming these chips don't need extensive cooling.

Thank you, wise persons.

i reckon about the equivalent of a 3000+, maybe slightly below. Id go for the opteron and overclock it. should get to 2600 (fx55 i think) with a decent mobo and an arctic freezer 64 pro which is very quiet.

i was in the same position as, except running my mobile at 2100mhz. I went for an opteron 146 running above FX57 speeds. With the arctic cooler pro hsf the total cost came to £138. slightly less than than the £500 or whatever that the FX57 costs.

Of course then the duel core market but a single chip is good enough for me until im shown otherwise (other than 3dmark 06 of course)

Currently the opteron is around 150 and the venice is 75 - given that the venice can reach 2500 easily (?), would that be more cost effective?

Is this commonly achievable?

ooh yes it does, the opty has a full level2 cache of 1mb, runs on lower voltages, less power consumption, higher quality overall, i think it is made from the same stuff as the fx chips. buy an opty! i have a 144 available for a helluva lot less than 150!
