Hi

I have a lowly amd athlon II x2 3gig cpu and i am thinking of upgrading the cpu to a better spec with out spending too much money. what would give me the bust performance boost for ££.

my system board is a asus m5a88-m

Personally I think your best bet is either a Phenom II X4 955/965BE or a Phenom II X6. And despite it is says to support the Bulldozer FX CPUs with uptodate bios, I wouldn't bother as they are slower than Phenom II. If you go for a Phenom II X4 960T, you'd need uptodate bios as well.
