im thinking of upgrading my 1100t,but unsure which way to go.I only realy do gaming so would a FX-4300 quad core or a FX 8350 be a better choice.is the more cores better?

What are your full specs?

You will get a lot of people reply here and tell you to abandon AMD and get an I5. I have had both a 8350 and a i5, and though the i5 performed marginally better for me, it was because i only have a single GTX 580 and so i wasn't bottlenecked and both were perfectly adequate for gaming with little difference. However for gaming you will find that 8350 will at least 4 cores idle since games at the moment aren't suited to use more cores, so if your going for just a gaming build a FX63xx will do just as good (who knows what will happen in the future considering the next generation console's specs!).

I think there is NO point in going fx4300 (i would say a 1100T would be better) and to be honest, even if you were to get a FX6300, i couldn't say you would be getting much of a performance boost, since clock for clock they are similar but its likely you would get a much nicer overclock on the FX chip.

I agree with many of your points but I think a 8 core is still a wise decision. The Crysis 3 benchmark shows the FX 8 cores performing pretty well and using all 8 cores. Who knows, maybe in a few months more games will act similarly.

Literately just bought crysis 3 since the post and WOW was i surprised to see all cores being used. Hopefully we can see more of this in the future. The price difference between a 6300 and a 83xx isnt much, and after seeing its performance in crysis 3 first hand and on the benchmarks, i must say it is worth considering the bump up even if you will just game on it.

AMD have maneged to get themselves in to all the new Game Consoles, the new PS4 is running an 8 core AMD CPU, game dev's are going to start optimising for that, Crysis 3 seems to be the first one.

I think more games are going to start using more cores, Crysis 3 is the first to show the FX-8350 comparable in performance to the i7 3770K.

Given the near £100 price difference, i would suggest the FX-8350 is definitely worth considering, spend the difference on a better GPU.
