Cpu upgrade

looking to buy a new cpu for my rig and don't know what I want, as it stands I have a "core i5" . as new games are coming there will be more that could use more cores to run on. should I buy a 6 core or would I be better off going for an 8 core?

I would stick with what you have until Skylake if possible. What's your budget?

I could afford a decent upgrade atleast, im going for a rig hall over lol new gpu, cpu and memory. mayby some water cooling too, but not for all the rig .
