...but a lazy one. I'm not overly excited by what's about as regards new boards and chips at the minute, so in terms of gaming, is it worth just getting a 2nd hand 4790k for a coupla hundred quid and clocking that up to at least 4.4ish? I'd also put this lot inside a Fractal Design R6 (I think?) case at the same time.

I may be getting a bonus this month, if I did I'd want to do the above for now at relatively little cost compared to putting together a new system, just wondering if it'd be that much better than the chip in my sig. I'd put together a new system next year when more chips and graphics cards should be around.

I play stuff like Project Cars 2, Far Cry 5 in 1440p and these run fine. I just wonder if they'd run even better with an i7 or whether things would be even smoother in day to day use.

Cheers for any input :)

For games these days it seems that cores and threads are becoming more important so, hyperthreading is a greater help than simple core speed.
On top of that a decent gpu is required especially if your looking at 1440p.
Andi.

My I5 7600k and 980ti OC'ed get maxed out gaming at 1440p and I only play less intensive games at 4k now due to frame rate.

If your not seeing any major problems with your current setup, I'd stick it out.
