i have a 8600g and would like to upgrade it now ive a bit of spare cash

it a asus rog strix b650e-e gaming wifi MB and 64gb of memory (got when ram was very cheap)

was thinking of a 9850x3d for it as a good all round cpu (bit of gaming, bit of work)

can anyone think of a better choice ? before i pull the trigger on it

What is the rest of your rig?

What resolution do you game at?

Are there any particular games that you play?

When you say work, are you talking general office work or PC intensive tasks that can stress your equipment, and if so what software do you use?

The 9850X3D is the current fastest gaming CPU, but depending on your use case it might not necessarily be the best option.

The 9950X3D-2 would be a better all rounder, if it’s worth the extra only really you can say. I’ve been pretty impressed with the 8c chips for some pretty intensive tasks, but if I was buying now I’d lean towards a 16 core at current prices.

have a 5070ti in it

The 9850X3D and 5070ti would be a good match for a gaming machine, it might not be the best fit for workflows but if you were happy with them on a 8600G it'll be a massive step up there too.

That's literally the best information we can give you without more details regarding your workloads.
