Hello, I have been recently encountering problems with my CPU (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500k @ 3.30GHz [Quad Core]) where it is only:
1) Displaying 1 Core in the System Information menu & Task manager

2) Only letting me use 1 Core
3) Displaying on games I have a processor lower than a Dual Core (Single Core)

  • I have updated all drivers (Including my chipset drivers)
  • I have tried to enable all cores in msconfig

But also on the Intel Website, it clearly states that this CPU should have 4 Cores and 4 Threads. Shown here

I'm also trying to enable a higher graphics setting in World of Warcraft but it will not let me because it is saying that I have a processor less than 2 Cores. (As stated before)

Thanks in Advance.

Try resetting the CMOS of your motherboard. You can do this by removing the battery for around 30 minutes or by using a CMOS jumper on your motherboard (if your model of motherboard has it).

I've had this if ACPI isn't enabled in the BIOS.

I've tried searching around in my BIOS for the ACPI but doesn't seem to be there, someone said you need to disable ErP to see it, but that didn't do anything (Plus it was already disabled)

Could try going to device manager (start, right click computer, manage) and uninstall the drivers. Then restart the computer.

I had a similar issue when swapping a dual core out for a tri core.

Get a Linux boot CD, if the cores are still missing in that then it's obviously a bios/hardware issue. It'll save a possible wild goose chase with Windows.

I have actually encountered the same problem (hoping it is that problem lol).

Go into msconfig>boot>boot options like you have done in that screenshot but instead untick the number of processor button then okay>save all settings as perm and then restart.

You should now have all your cores back :) and should be sending me some cake :p

I tried this and something went seriously wrong during the process, but I don't know how, since unticking this just forces your CPU to use available cores, I'm now mid-progress during a full reinstall. Hopefully the reinstall puts it right

Glad you got it all sorted. Shows how important a good, working install is of Windows, and why so many advocate a full reinstall once anything wierd begins!
