Hi

I have just bought an E6600 but I'm getting strange reading from the latest version of CPU-Z?

cpu = E6600 @ 2.40GHZ which is fine.

but:

Multiplier x6 ?
fsb 266mhz
1600ghz ?

I have definitely got 9x 266 set in the bios so I don't understand why it comes up with that. When I use an old version of CPU-Z it comes up with my chip being a Pentium-M (understandable as this version does not support Due Core2) all of the stats are correct eg 266 x 9 = 2400ghz.

Anyone else have a problem with the latest CPU-Z? I'm using a Gigabyte GA 965P DS3.

Cheers.

Could this be a power save mode lowering the multiplier while the processor is under utilised?

My A64 used to do that anyway.

Try running a bit of Prime95 and see if the multiplier goes back up to 9...

If this is when the CPU is at idle it is as a result of a number of BIOS settings. Check that you have both EIST (speedstep) and C1E disabled. They throttle down the CPU when idle to save energy.

Hi,

I'm pretty sure I have all power saving off but I'll check tonight.

If this is the case then why does the old version come up ok?

As you have stated the old version doesnt support the C2D chips so it may only be reporting the defaults specs of the cpu not its actual speed.
