See in CPU-Z (version 1.36) in the "mainboard" tab, at the bottom where it has Graphic Interface... you with me so far?
Right first box has version - mine being PCI-Express
Second box has Link Width - mine says 1x ???
third box has Max supported - mine says 16x

Does that mean that somehow my PCIE card is running at 1x speed? or is it a CPU-Z screw up?
I'm sure my other machine with the asrock and 7600gt says 16x in both boxes... i will have to check that.

I really do hate this Asus board with a vengance!!! Asrock is so much better than asus!!!!

For some reason if I up my FSB the system seems to randomly freeze... Doesn't matter how I overclock it.. anything about 220FSB and you get this random freezing.. sometimes its minutes, sometimes hours after reboot.
I've done all the usual, changed HTT multi to lowest, ram on divider etc... Seriously thinking of flogging this Asus board. I mean ok it can take me upto 2.8gig on an X2-4200, but if it randomly freezes what good is it?
The asrock dual used to run all day at 235FSB on 1.4V. You guys think it could be a fault with the board? i've done a couple of reinstalls to see if it was that, but no change. I'm sitting at stock speeds just now, and it seems to be fine.
But yeah most importantly, about the PCI-E link speed... is it actually 1x and if it is.. how do I change it? I'm sure i have almost all the settings at auto in bios.

ahh but i just remembered playing HD quality trailers from quicktime... they were jumpy. They really shouldn't be either.. and BF2 was also a bit choppy. and at stock it's SuperPI 1MB is 49sec now!!! somethings not right at all...
Think i will reflash the bios.

ok i fiddled a bit, still at stock 2.2ghz now 1mb pi is 39sec.. still bad but better.
I checked my second rig and CPU-Z reports the PCI-E link speed as 16x not 1x as the main rig.
So confused!

Have you installed the chipset drivers?

Also you don't wanna set the HT multiplier to the minimum, you want it at 4x or 3x, depending on FSB.

the chipset drivers are installed yes. I'm running 5x HTT just now for stock speed, but i change it to 4x when i go upto 250FSB,
