Hey guys time for noob question of the month!

I have clocked my E6600 to 3.001Ghz and it does super pi 1meg in 17.1 seconds, however when I run CPU-Z the corespeed says it is about 2Ghz on both cores. I cant add a picture of it at the moment as im at work, but anyone know what im doing wrong, I think I have the latest version but cant be sure, it also says Im multiplying my bus speed of 334 by 6 but im not it is by 9. The latest version of Sandra tells me it is running at 3Ghz to.

Im using the MSI power up mlb with 2 gig gskill ram 6400 NR version. Any advice would be appricated.

You've speed step running i bleive..s.eams to be happning to all!!!

Turn it off job done!

Also CPUz is now 1.35! beliver newer is on way

You could use cristal cpuz

Erm er goes!!! Ready as this is not soemthing you can fanny fart about with unless you prepaid to pay out!!!

How to: Disabling SpeedStep with Conroe ES Steppings 4 and 5

Here it is gentlemen, playing with CPU MSRs can be fun....

Steps:
1) Open CPU-Z so that you can see the active multiplier switch in realtime
2) Open CrystalCPUID -> Function -> MSR Editor
3) Type 0x000001A0 in the MSR Field
4) Click "RDMSD" (read)
5) Copy the upper 32-bits of the EDX resigister to the box below (should be 0x00000060 or similar)
6) Copy the lower 32-bits to the box below (should be 0x63940089 or similar)
7) Change the 3 (as in 0x63940089) to a 1
8) Click WRMSR (write)

You CPU's maximum multiplier (default on XE is 11x) is now set and the CPU will not step down. I see no difference in idle temperatures doing this. Long term affects have not be judged yet as I just did this about 1 hour ago. CPU seems to respond quicker in benchmarks and doesn't show the tendency to step down at the "wrong" time.

''I am working on a driver that will allow disabling/enabling EIST, C1E and the setting multiplier on boot or any time via the device manager. Should see it very soon. I just need to finish with my move right now, no time to do anything else.

-FCG''

Now if this all goes wrong it's not my fault or FCG's it's yours!!!

There are other mods you can doo too okay...i would defo update the bios!

Don't know the MSI BIOS but if you find settings for EIST, Cpu Enhanced Halt or Cpu Thermal Monitor etc.. you might try disabling those.

Cool thanks guys, will it boost the power of the cpu or will it just register properly as 3ghz?

Im guessing speed stepping just underclocks the cpu when it thinks you dont need the power and then when you play games or whatever it boosts it again. This is a pure guess.

Yeah when you do nowt CPU does sweet fa and drop the multi so it's working but not fully!

When under laod it jumps!!!

Many have forgoten about this as they are clocking with it runinng and running super pi 1m as a stress to get windopws to crach they get what they htink is stable and then when they test full with prime bang it's dead

Forgive my ignorance but is there any point in disableing speedstep then? Why would I really want my pc running so fast if im not actually doing anything? I will not be clocking it more than I have, not for the near future anyway, as at 3ghz it runs like a dream, well for me anyway.

Why buy a f1 car if your unable to drive it liek it's made to be!

Why drink beer if you don;t want a beer belly

I can go on and on

In aps, games etc i found it bloody anyoing and so did 500+ others who have switched the thing off!

Get it going for a month you'll chnage ya mind belive

its in the MSI BIOS exactly like cool & quiet was for my AMD ;) its also very very easy to mess about with
