**** CPU?

Yes, I actually have 2 x 1GB sticks of Corsair Ram spare (dual channel kit), so i'll give that a go later on.

Great, let us know how you get on.

And definitley run the latest memtest using the boot disk method - on your present memory.

My cpu does run pretty hot at idle though, about 45oC. Under load it hits about 59oC - would you consider this normal for an E7200?

Those figures are warm but in no way are they hot enough to make me think it's making your system unstable. What monitoring software are you using and have you gone straight to the BIOS after it's crashed to check temps there?

I would normally suggest refitting your heasink to see if you get any improvemnet - but i know what a b*tch the Akasa is to fit, with the pushpin method, so i advise you to just have a good look and check that it's seated firmly.

It would be interesting to know your temps when the system crashes - you could try recording them while you're testing.

Hello, Since I got back home, I've ran memtest on my current 4GB Ram and my 2GB pair, and this makes no difference [to overclocking].

:(

I'll just wait and get a Q6700 like i planned i suppose...

Did you run memtest with the cpu at stock?

The reason for this test was to see if your memory was unstable with the cpu at stock - not to see if it would remain stable with the system clocked.

If it failed memtest at default timings and frequancy then you would then begin to suspect the memorys ability to hold the clock rather than the cpu.

If you did test it at stock - ignore.

Yes, the cpu was running with all default values along with the memory.
