I would spend that £200 on an nVidia 8800gt and still have a wad left in my pocket.

this is what im going for then.... if i dont get greedy and get a the 6700

Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (0A33439)

Asus P5E Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz

It's means I'm going to jump in the car and drive up and beat the crap out of you if you buy an E6700 ;)

That's pretty sound.

The Q6700 will not give you any better overclock than the Q6600 is capable of, so YES buy a Q6600.

The Q6700 is a waste of your money - end of.

was that on default volts InkZ ??

I really couldnt be f*cK**d installing 2 operating systems allover again with a new board. too much stuff installed on both OSs. from what i gathered from Tetras. I would really need a new mobo to get to 3ghz with a 6600. but with a 6700 ill get there no probs.
will my system not run ok with a 6700? id be happy with a 3GHZ clock. no more. either way. id still be doing better than what i have..
3.15 ghz = 2 cores (E6600)
3.00 ghz = 4 cores (Q6700)

c

upped it to 1.3 volts.

im gettin this ...

Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (0A33439)

Asus P5E Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2

Tuniq Tower 120

so ill have 8gb of ram and hopefully get a nice OC

8gb is overkill, but it is dirt cheap atm.

I still think you should look at the graphics card tho. The new system will be no better for games than your current system if you use the same graphics card.

ok man. thanks for your assistance and advice. will let you know how this thing runs when ive it all built. maybe need some clockin tips etc.

the Intel® Core™2 Professional Q6700 is a multitasking monster...snigger! imagine getting that excited about a stock cpu lol :D

You are making the right decision crazeconnolly, if we could start up a torch and pitchfork wielding mob against the Q6700 we would :D

I assume you have Win 64-bit btw? Cos 8GB won't get used by 32-bit.
