Crabs

The bigger one deserved it, every time I picked it up it was trying to skewer me with its legs.

If anyone doesn't know the claws are snipped on the boat, a crab claw will crush your finger like a chocolate finger so learn how to cut the claws if you fancy finding some at low tide.

Good info and pics! Never been much of a seafood cooker, but would love to do crab or lobster.
I don't think I'd screwdriver them. So, 2 hours in the freezer and then straight into the boiling water?

Yep for 15 - 20 minutes once re boiling.

Don't plunge them in cold water as some people do otherwise the meat turns to slop, the steaming dries the meat out a bit.

Two important questions:

- Can you keep them as pets? If so, how long do they live?
- If they grab your finger, does it hurt? On a 1-10 pain scale.
