Crabs

 That's a dinner right there.

I like a bit of crab but the faff of eating it does put me off a bit - soft-shell crabs for the win :p

Wow... Really envious of the pro beef and crab

Hopefully my night at the Hawksmoor on Sunday will go some way to making me feel better :)

Hmm I am going to St George's market tomorrow. I see me getting a large quantity of crab claws and making up some garlic mayo to dip in.

Jealous. I walked past there last night after eating at Bollywood (superb btw) and it smelt unbelievable.

Hmm... Haven't tried Bollywood - I'll have to remedy that :)

I have high hopes for the Hawksmoor. I'm kind of expecting to be a bit let-down tbh as I've heard too many good things about it for me to be happy with anything less than awesome. I guess we'll see.

Took a trip to the Hawksmoor in Piccadilly and both the wife and I were very disappointed. Quality ingredients, but poorly cooked, expensive with all extras costing more. If you ask for something to be well done, they'll just overcook it to a piece of leather. They couldn't even get a yorkshire pudding right. It was that bad that we'll never eat at a Hawksmoor again. The place itself was noisy and crowded.

We now go to our local Miller & Carter instead, and the food is infinitely better in every way, and it's a much more comfortable restaurant that's easy to get to.

That's the first bad review I've seen for Hawksmoor. In Manchester we don't have that many options for decent steak so I'm hopeful that it will be good. If not I'll just go back to my rule of only ever having steak I've cooked myself :p

I've seen a few, but it's got such a rep and a cool name, so we thought we'd try it as a treat. I was massively let down. My wife is a bit of a steak connoisseur, and although she said it was a very good steak, with a good sauce, it came with nothing unless you ordered extras, and hadn't even been seasoned when cooked. My roast beef was just totally sub-par - I've had much better at a beefeater sunday buffet full of pensioners for a fraction of the price. I'm now of the opinion that Hawksmoor is very overrated and over priced, and there's much better places to get a good steak.

What it did do is prompt me to find some nice local places to eat (which is how we found a Miller & Carter up the road - the wife rates the steaks and sauces as better than at Hawksmoor), some nice Indian cafes, a great Chinese buffet, etc. The Fat Crab and Franco Manca are next on our list, and they are 10 mins and 20 mins from here, and won't break the bank.

I prefer Air Street Hawksmoor it's very laid back and Un hurried and the food was awesome.

Don't understand why you have a problem with the side dishes?

I had prawns on toast with a bowl of pickled veg and eggs then Chateaubriand bernaise sauce, triple cooked chips, buttered greens and Mac and cheese. Then we took a box of rolos home.

Ours was fantastic :)

Well, perhaps just because it's the soft-launch but they were incredibly generous and the food was incredibly nice.

They ran out of a few things we wanted (nothing we were too bothered about) but the end result was that all our sides and starters were free. One of our group complained about his t-bone being somewhat shy with the fillet so they also threw in an extra fillet steak for him.

In the end the total bill was £50 per person including a few bottles of wine, several cocktails, ridiculous amounts of steak (I shared a prime bone-in rib and a 55 day dry aged rump...and some bacon...and some bone marrow...and god knows how much roast potato, sweet potato, buttered greens, etc). The starters were also immense.

Obviously normally it would be more expensive and to be honest I'd have been less extravagant with my ordering but all in all I was impressed.

Why would you want a crab as a pet lol

I think they look comical

...and if I got a big enough one I would record videos of it crushing various household objects in its claws. I would then upload these videos to youtube and within months become the most popular vlogger in the world. I would then retire on my earned fortune of ad-revenue and affordable t-shirt sales.

Get a coconut crab, they can crush stupid amounts. And they fit the large criteria, the biggest there is at up to 1m and 4.1kilos.
