Crackdown - am I doing it wrong?

Currently blasting my way through the utterly wonderful Crackdown (yes, I know I'm a bit late to the party) and all was well until about halfway through the second island. Just wanting to know if there's something I'm doing wrong or if the game is supposed to be like this.

With the first island all was good. I got intel on all the Los Muertos generals and then managed to take out Don Domingo Garcia once they'd all been defeated. And once I'd cleared up the final crime I got intel on the first Volk general.

Took that one out and then got some intel on the second one... then the third and then... well, it all sort of stopped. After a while of running around and not really doing much apart from taking out various gang hit-squads I eventually got intel on one of the Shai-Gen bosses, so I'm currently scaling the heights around that island and have just taken out Czernenko and his freaks.

Is that supposed to happen before you've taken out all of the Volk? Does intel just appear randomly or is it in direct response to your actions; i.e. exploring the city or performing certain tasks?

The other issue I'm having is that the supply points don't seem to remember my weapon selection when I start the game or have been obliterated. It defaults back to the pistol (Colby Master) and the Colby EAR50 - is that a bug in the game once you've reached a certain point? Never seemed to happen until I got 'stuck' with the intel on the Volk generals.

No you're doing it right, you have complete freedom and can do as you like, in any order. You can do the last gangs from the start but it will be difficult as your skills haven't been given time to develop yet.

Don't forget to go orb hunting that's one of the more fun aspects of the game too. This game has amazing verticality and parkour yet to be matched elsewhere.

As KNiVES said you can go and do it in any order, one think i'd recommend though is that you get one of the heat seeking missle launchers from the Shi-Gen and take it to your supply point, makes the earlier missions against the volk that bit easier.

Don't know about your supply point thing, haven't had that issue myself.

So you get intel on the various generals as your skill level increases?

I'm at the following levels:

Agility: 4 stars and 50 points
Driving: 2 stars and 77 points
Explosives: 4 stars and 83 points
Strength: 4 stars and maxed out
Weapons: 4 stars and 36 points

Is the driving holding me back on receiving the intel I need?

That's pretty much all I've been doing while waiting for intel to arrive. It's got to the point where I've defeated all the bosses that I have intel on and I've got no idea as to the location of the others.

I've also been a bit slack with the facts. It's only two of the Volk that I'm missing intel on (5 and 7) and four of the Shai-Gen (4, 5, 6 and 7).

That the one with 5 in the clip? Been having loads of fun with it!

Hmmm. It's getting to be a right PITA as I've got to go back into the supply point when I regenerate and sort my weapons out.

I've just bought this today, so I'm even further behind than you ;)
I've just watched the video review on IGN and his opening statement is that its a completly free and open world, with no story/missions to follow :D
(Which echoes whats already been said)

intel i found triggered based on proximity to the lairs of the key figures, so general running about..or using the bundled map in the case was sufficient

which reminds me, i never did complete this game, should finish it some day i guess, it was a lot of fun

Also to get the intel faster just goto regions where the gang members are. I think if you wait for intel it just takes a while to come up but if you are close to a large group of gang members then it will say there is a boss near by and give you the intel. Just explore the map :)

Thanks, gents. Exploring it is then. Still got plenty of places I haven't yet discovered and I'm about 125 orbs short of the full 500 so I bet I can pick a few up on my travels.

Thanks to everyone that's offered advice. It's all appreciated.

one of my favourite games of this generation. also the only ever game to ever give me any sensation of motion sickness. stupidly traded it in once completed but buying it back now.

If you are determined to get the all the orbs then I would seriously suggest finding a map online that has them all listed, otherwise you'll never get them all. I had a map and it still took ages to find the last one :(

Intel is indeed done on proximity. You can just take down all 3 generals but you will have to put up with more troops and that.

And it is a superb game. Great achievements too.

er quick question on this, is there anyway to check how many orbs you have collected without picking another one up?
I've been playing this over the weekend and loving it, trying to level up my agility (3 * atm) to make things easier. Any, tips on roof races? I've only tried one and failed after missing one check point (i missed the jump and couldn't get back to it within the time).

I think the game is what The Hulk should have been, just reminds me of it (according to reviews/previews maybe the new Hulk should have just rebranded Crackdown lol).

I still need to complete this. I had lent it to my GF's brother but got it back last night to play on my new setup (as I always remember the explosions sounding/looking awesome)

Although I remember I was really stuck on a few of the last bosses.

One of my favourite things to do is shoot the tyres out of oncoming traffic as the way they skid and then flip is awesome, especially if you time it right and they flip over you just before hitting you :)

The first day I got the game I spent about 4 hours just doing that! Another fun one to do is to shoot out tires on a motorway corner and try to get the cars to flip onto the road below :D

One of my favourite things is to jump into a crowd of Hostiles and just roundhouse them all :D
Also, watching car crashes on the motorway is fun ;)

Is there going to be a Crackdown 2? Imagine it with GTAIV graphics

Get someone to co-op with you, it is SOOO much more fun and easier (esp for the last boss) well not last but hardest one in the tower.

I've only got one orb left and hae given up tbh :(

Maybe I should have given crackdown a go with multiplayer.. I thought the game was missing something playing single player, felt like there needed to be more to the game. I lost interest about half way through playing and haven't touched it since.
