Cracked Screen Protector

I dropped my S21 FE for the first time today and have a small 5 millimetre by 2 millimetre crack on the edge of the protector. Just wondering if it's normal for tempered glass to crack from about a 3 and a half foot drop? It dropped onto a pavement. I'm just surprised it cracked at all because I thought the rubber lip of the case would prevent the screen making contact. Unless there was a loose stone or something sticking up that hit the protector, but I didn't notice anything on the ground like that. I bought the protector from a local shop for £10 and am happy to go back and get him to replace it with another, but just wondering if I bought a cheap so called tempered glass that's perhaps not much good, or if you think by looking at the box that it's fine?

Glass screen protectors are hard but brittle, so any drop into a hard surface can crack them. To be honest, from my experience, it's only unusual that the crack didn't shoot across more of the screen.

Thanks gents, that gives me confidence to go back and get the same shop to replace the protector.

Hopefully the main screen underneath is perfectly fine which I guess it will be. Yes, it's a bit odd it didn't splinter across more of the screen. I can only think the phone fell onto a little stone and caused that chip.

It's done its job. It protected your screen from cracking. £10 for a new one over a complete whole replacement screen... Goes without saying really.

Indeed. Screen is still perfect. I went back to the shop and got the cracked tempered glass protector removed and replaced with a new one. Like new again!

uhm that depends how many screen protectors you replace on the same phone.

Haha you ought to see my screen protector. It has so many chips and cracks it's hard to see the screen sometimes....

I always do my own and usually manage to do a decent job.

people do nothing themselves these days it seems.

you can get screen protectors that come with a guide you clip on the phone to making them idiot proof
