cracking ones joints

I find a slight pain starts to build up in my hands if I don't crack my knuckles. Cracking them relieves it. Well, it's not really a 'pain' as such, more an uncomfortable ache...

My big toes click when I walk. My mum always tells me to stop doing it, but how on earth can I do that apart from never walking again

I have this habbit, then again I can crack literaly evry joint in my hands, the thing is if I don't do it my joints feel stiff.

One of my ankles "clicks" when i walk in a similar way to cracking knuckles/joints, wierdly my Dad and brother both have the same thing in the same ankle!

There was a guy that spent 25 years or something cracking the knuckles on only his left hand to see if there was any noticable difference in arthritis development. There wasn't.

It's just fluids and gases being pushed around inside the joint, I think. There's no conclusive proof that says this causes arthritis or any other joint problems, to my knowledge.

I've cracked my joints since I was a young lad, I'm 22 and have some serious joint issues in my hands, my knees sound like a gravel driveway, my wrists like cement mixers, and playing my bass ends up with my fingers getting rather slow and stiff.

but arthritus is a common issue in my family, I should take more cod liver oil but never got into the habit

My joints are really cracky. I'm struggling to think of some that don't pop either voluntarily or involuntarily :(

I cannot stop it. It's a force of habit now.

I usually crack my knuckles by either bending back, clenching forward or pulling fingers individually. I crack my next both ways with the use of my hands. I crack my back by twisting myself either way. I crack my ankles as a force of habit as well.

I wonder if that is why I can do this:

By the way, pink finger nails are from a test I did with some fake blood last night in preparation for Halloween!!

My bloke cracks his knuckles (even toe 'knuckles') all the time!

Having looked it up and decided it doesn't ruin the joints, I don't mind it so much now.

He once decided my big toe needed a crack - OW - he got a kick for that! He indeed made it pop but it def didn't need to be done...

My knees go every so often but only since I started being more active. Correlation?

There was a guy who cracked the knuckles on just one of his hands for several years (for some reason 40 years comes to mind) and saw no ill effects compared to his other hand.

Yep, I have that in my neck, it just builds up and builds up, only way to stop it is to crack it. People around me really don't like it when I do though, sometimes I can get it really loud.

I can crack my neck quite often as well, it upsets some people for reasons I've never fully understood. Ok it's not a nice sound but it makes me feel a whole lot better usually.

I asked a sporty type about this once and she claimed it was a build up of air between your joints and you dispel the air when you crack them \o/ , upshot being it wasn't problematic

Air bubbles/gases in the synovial fluid expanding to fill space caused by moving the joints apart as I understand it.

My knees crack every time I crouch down, I was told it's just cartilage moving around and being pushed out of the joint as it bends so nothing serious... No idea if that's the case though.

I crack my knuckles, my toes, my back, occasionally my neck and - if it's cold and I've been gaming - my wrists.

No problems with my joints at all. They sometimes feel a bit funny or clicky, but I don't think that's made any worse by the cracking, as far as I can tell.
