Was just haveing a little nap after an all nighter party last night. Had my phone set up as alarm. So it goes off in the middle of my sleep, i lean over pick it up and press the button(which is the same as the answer button). Still holding the phone i lie my head back down when i hear a faint "hello?". "Oh crap!" i shout. I look at the phone and im currently in a conversation. So i place it next to my ear and proceed to be told my first job interview, which was due for saturday, is now being moved to tomorrow.

The interviews for Gamestation and im really crapping it now. I know its just for a small retail job but it would be my first and i wanna do good :D Any tips or any idea what questions they'd ask.

Glad your excited, my first interview was for a local KFC when it opened. Didn't want the job so the interview went pretty badly (was full time)

1) if your hair isn't long, grow it
2) if you're not emo, become emo
3) if you're not a geek, become one
4) if you're not smelly, start to smell

follow this criteria and you'll have no problem getting the job :D

Shirt and tie will be fine mate, just be yourself and act interested in the job, but be realistic, no need to act like this is your dream job, just pick out a few things that make you want this job.

And wash your arse.

You should definately go in a yellow 'woot' t-shirt. Other than that wear a suit, be polite, enthusiastic etc, and err clean and shaven.

well being the suitless guy i am and with such short notice i wont be wearing a suit tomorrow. I was thinking maybe wearing what I wore to my cousins wedding, it was smart and casual ofc. A white/red striped shirt, creamy trousers :P , and some smart shoes.

or how about my half life 2 t shirt and track suit bottoms?

It's an interview. Not the set of Miami Vice.

Get up early, get into town, buy a cheap white shirt, some black trousers and a decent tie.

It's an interview for gamestation to all those saying wear a suit, not for PM.

Just go smartly dressed in the shirt and pants you mentioned and you'll be fine.

Suit and tie for a retail job in a games shop is way excessive. Don't bother with a suit and tie until you start getting interviews for full time jobs and not a part time pocket money job!

There won't be any questions that are too taxing so just relax. They'll probably ask the old favourites for a retail position:

Give an example of when you had to work as a team.
Give an example of when you used your own initiative.
Three words to describe yourself.
What would you do in X situation? (usually how to handle a moaning customer)
Product knowledge?
Why do you want to work their/ why are you suited?

Good luck man... you'll do fine :)

TBH, shouting "CRAP" down the phone has probably ruined any chance of you getting the job anyway.

You have already now made your "first" impression, going in a suit would be a good idea just to try and redeem yourself.

An interview eh? Boy, what I wouldn't give for one of them right now.. :(

Can't really give any advice that hasn't already been given.

Look smart, wash and shave (if you need to :p) and just be confident in yourself and think about any questions they might ask you. Will probably also be worth researching Gamestation, just incase they ask what you know about them, which is likely.

I dont care what anyone says go in a suit, first impressions are vital

If you turn up in a suit for a retail job at a place like that they wont know when to stop laughing.

Go smart casual.

Hi mate,

I work for Blockbusters, who own GameStation so we run on similar systems etc IIRC. Just go in and be yourself really and youll be fine. I have to say though if your expecting an easy time then dont as its a lot of fiddly little jobs and the work is very annoying and thankless at times. You soend 4 hours putting items in alphabetical order them some little brat comes in and destroys it in 5 seconds.

When i went in for my interview i went in a black pants, shirt and jacket and they still sniggered as i was overdressed for the job title.

If its anything like up north, youll get 10 free blockbusters rentals a week ;) which are very useful.

Be yourself, and the main thing to show is flexibility with hours. If they are anything like us they will be giving you unset shifts, so show that you can be flexible. You may also get asked some other things like whats your favourite game etc, i did for blockbusters.

Im considering looking at my local Gamestation to see if anythings going, as its pretty much the same working condition as where i am now, except the rules are a bit slacker.

I'd quite like to work at Gamestation, as it goes. Aside from the usual pains of being in retail.. i.e Saturdays, interacting with human beings, it seems a nice place to work. The staff at our local one seem genuinely quite content in their jobs, and they apparently get to listen to their own music.

And they actually DO play games all day. There's either a DS or PSP beeping away behind the counter whenever I'm in there.

Nice ****?

I've had a few comments on them, yes...

...

The staff in Game invariably seem to be foppish, floppy-haired student types.

They always talk to me too...Most disconcerting.

Trained chimp (whilst pointing at my cans): Whatyur liss'n'n to, mate?

Me: Ulver/MC Frontalot/Antipop Consortium/Miocene/Whatever I'm listening to whilst out and about...

TC: Raaaaiiiiht. Der yuh lahhhk Bullet For My Valentine?

Me: No...
