Eh? You love BFMV. And all that other **** they play on MTV2

Don't you mean M2?

*n (showing his age and, as always, his elitism)

PS: Am I detecting closet fandom, Acronym boy?

In the gamestation thats near me when you go in and look at the games etc you hear the staff just chillin and chattin away.

Go smart casual over dressing for a job is quite bad I've recently gone for a job at a prison smart/casual and got the job so don't go in a suit and look a prat :D.

I'd quite like to work at Gamestation, as it goes. Aside from the usual pains of being in retail.. i.e Saturdays, interacting with human beings, it seems a nice place to work. The staff at our local one seem genuinely quite content in their jobs, and they apparently get to listen to their own music.

And they actually DO play games all day. There's either a DS or PSP beeping away behind the counter whenever I'm in there.

You notice the dodgy smell that place has though?

I had a job at Game back when I was 18 for a couple of months as my first job before starting University years ago now.

No need for a suit, just dress smart. I wore a shirt and tie.

As long as you know about games and hardware and stuff you will be fine. I got asked a few questions like "What was the last game you played?", "What did you like about it?", "Can you explain the differences between a Playstation and a Dreamcast?"

You really don't need that much knowledge, as the store manager only played one game, yet I would see him wandering around the store recommending games he had never even touched. They also hired in a guy from McDonalds who knew nothing about games or computers.

So I really wouldn't worry, the fact that you are on these forums probably means you know more than you would need for the job.

That can also be a problem...

"Sorry mate, it would appear that youre too qualified for the position. We're looking for a complete moron who we can mould in our own image and brainwash into thinking our stuff is the best cos they have no prior experience etc"

Funny you should say that. As the guy they employed from McDonalds was useless, he even spelt the name of his town wrong on his CV. Another guy came in who had a degree, had worked in the computer games industry and as an animator, yet the guy from McDonalds got the job over him. It was however down to the fact that Manger of Game had previously been the manager of McDonalds and employed him there are 'Knew he was a good worker'. Even so, he didn't consult the assistant manager when he employed him, so was apparantly wrong to have taken the lesser qualified person on.

well had it yesterday, it went not too bad. i mucked up something awful on one of the questions though

first question - if you could be any game character who would you be and why?
first answer- solid snake, cos he owns :p

the bad question was - what do you notice is different about gamestation to any other game retailers
bad answer - erm...well they are a lot friendlier and more knowledgeable(which they are in my exp)

I should have said they done retro stuff...but NO i had to be an idiot and go for the sloppy cliche

apart from that it went not too bad, rest of the Q's were just normal. I was very nervous though. he told me there was 8 applicants and 5 jobs going so i have a good chance

i find out this monday or tuesday.

Thanks for the info, i have an idea what they ask now :)

Cant wait tbh :p

1) if your hair isn't long, grow it
2) if you're not emo, become emo
3) if you're not a geek, become one
4) if you're not smelly, start to smell

follow this criteria and you'll have no problem getting the job :D
can't go wrong there :D

my interview for EB was:

Q: Do you know about games?
A: Yes, mainly PC games as thats the format i prefer.

Q: If i was to ask if there was a sequel to the Myst games what would you say?
A: Id say that i belive a game called Riven (sp?) was the sequal but then theres also **** **** *** that are very similar in design and gameplay but made by different people.

*where ****** = games i cant remember now.

Q: When can you start?
A: Monday!

OK, see you then :D

Most important thing i found out, dont do it for the sales. My manager was purely sales orientated and would sell top of the range games to people with old PCs.

I hated that, id take the time to talk to them and recommend similar games that would work. I even ended up with people coming in and asking for me by name, nothing more satisfying :D
