Iam on AOL silver which has a max speed of 1 meg, which i recenty got after been on 512k for 2 years.

Had 1 meg for the last 6 weeks, now the speed ha drop to below 512. Called aol who are no help at all. Seem like it not just me as my brother who as 8meg line can only manage 500 averge down speed.

Has anyone else seen their broadband speed drop in the last 2 days.

Are they throttling your connection because you use e.g. p2p software?

My old housemate had it on 24/7 and now we can't get downloads faster than 30-35kbs :(

no, not download anything for awhile and the pc hadn't been used for a few days, i only turned it on Monday and notice slow connection to web pages.

my netgear is still reading connection at 989k but when using speedtest.net downspeed was on 453k.

It just getting worst by the minute, router saying connrction at 1120k speedtest.net down speed is 242k with up speed at 379k.

Any ideas why downspeed is slower than upspeed?

Is your connection ADSLmax (if AOL do that)? If it is, as you have it off for a while, they may have reset the line speed as a precaution, and you need to reset the sync rate.

Had problems with my aol connection too recently. They deny they were limiting it but i was only getting 175K instaed of usual 850K. Went onto live help and complained loudly and got it sorted in a few days. Seemingly there was a "fault" with my line.

Has happened before too. Think it maybe bt limiting it as i use a lot of bandwith and live in a small town.

Just threaten to cancel if they dont provide the service your paying for. Livehelp peps will try to tell you they cant do a line check but they can. Also ask for a call back about the problem so you dont have to wait ages and pay for the privilage.

Not looking forward to carphonewarehouse taking over

I think they throttle these sort of sites. I get 512 most of time off there. (with AOL)

but if you go on torrents etc or newsgriups I get about 600-700kbs which is the normal for me

cub1061 are you sure your on the 1meg service? the reason I ask this as your upload SYNC rate is that of a 8Meg service,

Whats make/model is your router? Can you please post full line stats in the routers settings?

With the above info it would be much easier to solve the problem.

Tried the BT Speedtest (instructions in the FAQ)?

my netgear is still reading connection at 989

Huh? Post the stats page (included the connection speeds) from the router.
Sounds like you've been moved onto a Max service, in which case you aren't going to get 1Mbps - a 989kbps sync rate isn't high enough to get the 1Mbps profile, so you'd only get 512kbps.

1 meg connecton, what a joke. If it keep getting slower iam going back to dial up.

fothsn: do you think my up speed is correct with my current downspeed?

No tbh you have being put on the 8meg service, By the looks of it you live a very long way from your exchange, And shouldnt be on it,

enter you details into these two links and post the results pls, edit out any phone numbers etc so we cant see them ;)

Edit: also show a screeny of the connection stats icon on the router stats page.

Excellent thanks for the screenys :D

Yep just as I said your a very long way from your exchange, And you have being put on the 8meg service, hence the high upload speed. Your Noise Margin (SNR) is 6 this is low this would suggest why you are getting frequent speed changes,

Im sorry to say you will not be able to recive speeds over 1/1.5Meg using the ADSL1 standard, possibaly on ADSL2 maybe upto 3Meg but your exchange dosent seem to offer ADSL2, I would suggest you phone AOL ask to be put through to there scottish call center thats if you end up in India :p and tell them to downgrade your service, this will 100% solve the problems, Or personally if you have cable in your area NTL would enable you to recive higher speeds as they dont use the BTlines.

Have you tried plugging the phone into the BTMaster socket? to see if your SYNC speed inreases..
