Bah !

"Mr Incredible strikes again" as my girlfriend said to me! - it appears I don't know my own strength! :o

Why?

I manage to completely snap off the drivers door handle on my e38 7 Series.

Lesson for the day is not to try to open your door before you unlock it.....

Not plastic as I first thought, but, made of metal!

Yet, I've managed to tear the thing clean off! :o

About £70 for a fitted replacement, so I'm told.

Years of Fords & Vauxhalls with plastic door handles and no problems, give me something well built, and I break it!

Heh. Is this the fantastic German car build quality that is apparently so much better than that of my 22 year old Oldsmobile according to Killa_ken?

:)

Wasnt your car not working and sitting in your drive way a few weeks back? :p

To be fair it does look like the handle is die cast out of that very brittle "monkey metal" that car manufacturers seem to love. Certainly doesn't look like a very robust design anyway.

Not only that, but the bit that takes all the strain is the (what looks like <1cmx2mm) of monkey metal at either end

That's the sort of thing you expect from something like a metro city, not a bmw. Indeed that's exactly like what I did to my first car many years ago (see above 998cc metro reference  ), just ripped the metal handle right off the car whilst trying to open the door hehe. Quality materials :p

It's yet to be disabled by much. I think I had the battery disconnected while I was working on the electrics, if that counts. Oh, tell a lie - battery killed itself in July, being an Acme El-Cheapo unit rather than the Delco that I've replaced it with.

Lol, pwned :D

If you say so....personally I still think I'm entitled to feel a bit smug about her considering I only paid £460, no matter what shape she's in. The £ per lb ratio is pretty damn good :D

If you rely on a car to get women you really do have something to worry about. :p

Just what i was thinking, i drove around in a 1993 Citroen Xantia 1.9TD for a while and it never seemed to be an issue from that point of view, it was a complete shed, women really dont care.

I bet the skirt pulled to £ spent ratio is a different story though. Driving around in a shed is all well and fine if you want to purvey the image of a steenkin student empty pocketed straw chewing yokel :)

Thankfully, every girl (a whole four....) I've been on a date with since getting the car has liked it.

Worryingly though, they all liked the Seicento more....and they called it cute....

Well being shacked up for a 9 year stretch and only recently getting parole i'm probably not qualified to comment. But I'd rather pick up a fit bit of skirt in a nice BMW than a £50 shed. Never mind 0-60 time.. knickers round ankles time would be a lot improved in a classier ride.

*waits for deluge of posts saying I've had Kate Moss in the back of my 20 yr old transit* :)
